October 31, 2012

Temperatures are expected to rise back into the 80s over the next several days so my daily electricity consumption may go up a bit.

But, at least in the most recent 24–hour period, I kept my consumption in single digits.

Yesterday's meter reading was 6656. Today's reading is 6663.

October 30, 2012

The forecast calls for gradually warming temperatures this week, but my electricity consumption in the last 24 hours remained in single digits.

Yesterday's meter reading was 6648. Today's reading is 6656.

October 29, 2012

This morning was a busy one for me.

I managed to take the picture of my meter, but I wasn't able to write my daily blog post.

So here it is — better late than never.

It's been getting cold at night, but I've avoided running my heat so my electricity consumption has been remarkably constant the last few days.

Yesterday's reading was 6638. Today's reading was 6648.

October 28, 2012

There really wasn't much difference in my electricity consumption in the last 24–hour period.

And that can be seen in my meter readings.

The current meter reading shows a slightly higher consumption level — but that is totally understandable. Yesterday was Saturday. I spent most of the day at home. I watched a lot of football.

Anyway, my meter reading yesterday was 6628. This morning's reading is 6638.

October 27, 2012

It was cold last night — upper 30s, perhaps lower 40s — but my electricity consumption didn't show an increase.

I think I have new neighbors living below me — so I may have benefited from their heat. But I don't think my heat ever kicked on last night.

I say that because the last time I ran the heat — a week or two ago — my electricity consumption went up from perhaps single digits the day before to the 20s, just from the heat being used in the nighttime hours.

But my electricity consumption shows single–digit use since yesterday morning.

My meter reading yesterday morning was around 6621. Today's reading is 6628.

October 26, 2012

As predicted, the cold front began making its way through the Metroplex last night.

For that matter, it was noticeably cooler when I left school yesterday afternoon, and last night's low may have been as much as 20° cooler than the night before.

Anyway, you can see a reduced consumption of electricity when you compare yesterday's meter reading with today's.

Yesterday's meter reading was 6612. This morning's reading is between 6620 and 6621.

October 25, 2012

Once again, yesterday was virtually a carbon copy of the day before.

And, once again, it showed in my meter readings.

Yesterday's meter reading was 6597. Today's reading is 6612. Consumption was up a little over the day before — but not by much.

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

October 24, 2012

Once again, the temperature was about what it was the day before, and my electricity consumption was about the same as well.

OK, it was a little lower.

Yesterday's meter reading was 6586. Today's reading is 6597.

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

October 23, 2012

Temperatures were in the 80s yesterday, but it wasn't quite as high as it has been — and neither was my electricity consumption.

Yesterday's meter reading was 6572, and today's reading is 6586.

Monday, October 22, 2012

October 22, 2012

The temperature rose into the upper 80s — at least — yesterday. It may have reached 90°.

My electricity consumption went up accordingly. Yesterday's meter reading was 6551. This morning's reading is 6572.

A cool front is expected by the end of the week, but it is supposed to remain in at least the mid–80s through Thursday.

Sunday, October 21, 2012

October 21, 2012

The temperature rose into the upper 80s yesterday, and my electricity consumption rose with it.

Yesterday's meter reading was between 6537 and 6538. Today's meter reading is 6551. Consumption was in double digits yesterday.

I expect more of the same today. In fact, today's high is supposed to be close to 90°.

Saturday, October 20, 2012

October 20, 2012

Yesterday was practically a carbon copy of the day before — and so was my electricity consumption.

Yesterday morning's meter reading was 6530. This morning's reading is between 6537 and 6538.

If the forecasts are correct, though, the daytime temperatures will be back in the 80s today — and will remain there for the next several days at least. So I fully expect my electricity consumption to go up by a few kWh.

Friday, October 19, 2012

October 19, 2012

The temperature stayed in the 70s through yesterday afternoon (more of the same is expected today), and my electricity consumption remained in single digits.

Yesterday's meter reading was between 6522 and 6523. This morning's meter reading is 6530.

Thursday, October 18, 2012

October 18, 2012

The temperature got into the upper 80s yesterday, and my electricity consumption went up a little.

Yesterday's reading was 6513. This morning's reading is between 6522 and 6523.

October 14, 2012

(NOTE: I am posting this today because I just realized it was never posted before. I don't know why. But it was showing in my directory as draft so, in the interest of consistency, I am posting it here now, three days after the fact.)

The temperature yesterday was cooler than it has been lately — undoubtedly because of the cloud cover we had for most of the day — and my electricity consumption went down.

Yesterday's meter reading was 6470. This morning's meter reading is 6483.

October 17, 2012

I think yesterday was mostly mild.

I was in the classroom and the newsroom most of the day so I don't really know what the temperature was. But, on the occasions when I was outside, it seemed mild.

This morning's meter reading supports that. Yesterday's reading was between 6505 and 6506. This morning's reading is 6513.

Consumption for the last two days has been in single digits.

Tuesday, October 16, 2012

October 16, 2012

I was indoors much of the day so I don't really know what the temperature was like, but my electricity consumption at my apartment apparently remained in single digits yesterday.

Yesterday's meter reading was between 6497 and 6498. This morning's reading is between 6505 and 6506.

It's hard to know what to expect at this time of year. The forecast looks pretty favorable this week, but you never know if a hot spell or a cold spell will descend upon us suddenly — and the forecasts change. But right now things look pretty good.

October 15, 2012

Weatherwise, Sunday was a lot like Saturday.

And so was my electricity consumption.

Yesterday's meter reading was 6483, which reflected consumption of about 13 kWh in the previous 24–hour period. Today's reading is between 6497 and 6498, which suggests consumption of 14–15 kWh.

October 13, 2012

The warming trend continues.

I don't know precisely how warm it was yesterday, but I know it was warmer, probably in the mid– to upper 80s.

What I do know is that my electricity consumption went up.

But that means something different from what it meant in the summer — or what it will mean in the winter. Consumption was nearly 20 kWh yesterday, which, frankly, is something that has rarely happened since Labor Day.

Friday's meter reading was 6451. Today's reading is 6470.

Friday, October 12, 2012

October 12, 2012

Daytime highs returned to the 80s yesterday, and they're expected to stay there for several days.

Accordingly, my electricity consumption went up yesterday — but not by much. Yesterday's meter reading was 6438. This morning's reading is 6451.

Thursday, October 11, 2012

October 11, 2012

It was quite mild yesterday, and, as a result, my electricity consumption remained in single digits.

Yesterday's meter reading was between 6429 and 6430. Today's reading is 6438.

The daily usage will probably go up by a few kWh in the next several days. Forecasts call for daily highs in the 80s — starting today.

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

October 10, 2012

I must apologize for the quality of today's photo.

It is an overcast day — and expected to remain that way — so the meter is probably hard to read. But this morning's reading is between 6429 and 6430. Yesterday's reading was between 6420 and 6421 so, once again, my electricity consumption remained at or below 10 kWh.

It got into the 80s yesterday. It is supposed to get up to only 75° or 76° today, then the forecast calls for 80s through the weekend and into early next week. There are chances for rain during the weekend.

October 9, 2012

The temperature was still cool yesterday, but it wasn't as cool as it was the day before so I felt no need to run my heat.

As a result, my electricity consumption fell into single digits.

Yesterday's meter reading was 6412. This morning's reading is between 6420 and 6421.

Monday, October 8, 2012

October 8, 2012

It got cold last night — low 40s — and I switched on my heat.

We had an unseasonably mild winter, and I didn't start monitoring my meter until April so I suppose this is my first experience with electricity consumption via cold weather.

Anyway, I discovered that I want to be even more sparing in my use of heat than I have been in my use of air conditioning because, just in the overnight hours, my consumption skyrocketed.

Yesterday's meter reading was 6390. Today's reading is 6412.

Presumably, that will improve if and when the management rents the unit below me, and I can benefit from that unit's heat. It has been vacant for a few months now.

October 7, 2012

The cold front is definitely here. Last night's low dropped into the 40s, and forecasters tell us we'll remain in the 50s today.

I waited until nearly noon to shoot my photo today because it is so overcast. But, when I shot the photo, the reading indicates my use stayed around 10 kWh.

Today's reading is 6390. Yesterday morning's reading (photographed more than 24 hours ago) was 6379.

Saturday, October 6, 2012

October 6, 2012

Well, the cool front has arrived, as expected, and it brought the anticipated influence on my electricity consumption.

Yesterday's meter reading was around 6369. Today's reading is 6379.

Friday, October 5, 2012

October 5, 2012

The temperature was in the upper 80s yesterday, and the same thing is expected today, but a cold front is supposed to move through the area tonight, bringing much milder temperatures during the day — and perhaps some unseasonably cold nights.

My electricity consumption went up a little in the last 24 hours. Yesterday's meter reading of 6355 translated to 10 kWh consumed in the previous 24 hours. Today's reading is 6369, which means my consumption in the most recent 24–hour period was 14 kWh.

Thursday, October 4, 2012

October 4, 2012

It was a little warmer yesterday than it has been — and the forecasters say it will be in the upper 80s today (and, perhaps, tomorrow), but a cool front is supposed to be here by Saturday, lowering daytime highs into the 60s and 70s and nighttime lows to the low 50s and even upper 40s.

Yesterday's meter reading was 6345. Today's is 6355, which means my consumption in the last 24 hours was only 10 kWh.

Wednesday, October 3, 2012

October 3, 2012

The weather has been nice and mild lately, and my electricity consumption has reflected it.

This morning's meter reading is 6345. That is only 8 kWh in the last 24 hours. Yesterday's reading was 6337.

Tuesday, October 2, 2012

October 2, 2012

Once again, I must apologize for the quality of the photo.

It's still a bit overcast this morning, but I have about concluded that, for sharper images, I'm really going to have to take my photos later in the day — at least until the daylight hours are getting longer.

This morning's reading is 6337, which means I used roughly 10 kWh in the last 24–hour period.

Monday, October 1, 2012

October 1, 2012

Yesterday was another mild — and, for awhile, rainy — day, and my electricity consumption proves it.

Yesterday's meter reading was 6316. Today's reading is between 6327 and 6328.
