August 31, 2015

Sunday was a lot like Saturday — mostly overcast with temperatures that got into the 90s in the afternoon. We didn't get any rain, and none is expected in the immediate future. In fact, there is a distinct sameness to the daily forecast for the next seven days — highs in the mid–90s, lows in the mid–70s.

Last night's low was supposed to be in the mid–70s. It was 78° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 27091. Yesterday's reading was between 27048 and 27049. My consumption was 42½ kWh.

August 30, 2015

The temperature was in the 90s yesterday, but it didn't feel that hot, probably because we had cloud cover most of the day. Oh, it was hot, and everyone knew summer isn't over around here. We have been told to expect 90s for the next week at least, but, realistically, we can probably expect daytime temperatures in that range for at least another month.

You don't have to spend much time in Texas before you realize that you have to appreciate the occasional cool front while you have it, whether it lasts a day or just a morning.

Last night's low was expected to be in the mid–70s. It was 78° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 27048 and 27049. Yesterday's reading was between 27015 and 27016. My consumption was 33 kWh.

August 29, 2015

Apparently, we got some light rain last night. I could see moisture on the streets when I woke up this morning. That comes on the heels of another hot day yesterday, and, according to the forecasts, we can expect more of the same today, the rain notwithstanding.

Last night's low was expected to be in the upper 70s. It was 80° when I woke up.

It is still overcast and kind of drizzly this morning, which affects the quality of my photo. This morning's meter reading is between 27015 and 27016. Yesterday's reading was 26989. My consumption was 26½ kWh.

August 28, 2015

Yesterday was another warm summer day in north Texas. The high was in the upper 90s — but humidity has remained low. We can probably expect more of the same for at least another month, perhaps two months, perhaps longer.

Last night's low was expected to be 73°. It was 75° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 26989. Yesterday's reading was 26964. My consumption was 25 kWh.

August 27, 2015

The temperature was in the upper 90s again yesterday, and the forecasters say that is something we can expect for the foreseeable future. I know the heat will eventually subside; I just don't know when.

One good sign is when the nighttime lows start to get cooler. Last night was expected to be in the low 70s. I twas 77° when I woke up, which may not seem like much, but it is a few degrees lower than it was just last week.

This morning's meter reading is 26964. Yesterday's reading was 26939. My consumption was 25 kWh.

August 26, 2015

Yesterday doesn't seem to have been a bad day for this time of year. I was inside most of the day, but my understanding is that the temperature, at its peak, was in the low 90s. Forecasters are expecting highs in the mid–90s (between 94° and 96°) just about every day for the next seven days.

Last night's low was supposed to be 71°, and the same is forecast for tonight. It was 77° when I woke up this morning.

This morning's meter reading is 26939. Yesterday's reading was between 26913 and 26914. My consumption was 25½ kWh.

Tuesday, August 25, 2015

August 25, 2015

Yesterday's temperature got into the upper 90s — around 98°, I think — and the heat index was over 100°. The actual temperature is expected to be a few degrees cooler today and tomorrow.

Last night's low was expected to be 75°. It was 80° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 26913 and 26914. Yesterday's reading was 26882. My consumption was 31½ kWh.

Monday, August 24, 2015

August 24, 2015

I'm pretty sure we were back in triple digits yesterday. I checked the temperature around 2 p.m. and it was in the upper 90s with a heat index of 105°. If the actual temperature didn't get into triple digits, it felt like it.

Last night's low was expected to be in the upper 70s. It was 80° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 26882. Yesterday's reading was 26835. My consumption in the last 24 hours was 47 kWh.

Sunday, August 23, 2015

August 23, 2015

We were back in the 90s yesterday, probably the mid–90s. I spent most of the day indoors and really didn't check the readings so I can only guess on that.

I think our overnight forecast called for a low in the upper 70s. I slept later today than usual, since today is Sunday; the temperature was 81° when I woke up, which really tells me nothing of whether we reached the target temperature or not.

This morning's meter reading is 26835. Yesterday's reading was between 26783 and 26784. My consumption was 51½ kWh.

Saturday, August 22, 2015

August 22, 2015

The cool front has come and gone, and there is no telling when we will return to moderate temperatures. We were back in the 90s yesterday — albeit the low 90s — and are likely to stay there awhile.

Last night's low was expected to be 78° — which is precisely what the temperature was when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 26783 and 26784. Yesterday's reading was between 26764 and 26765. My consumption in the last 24 hours was 19 kWh.

Friday, August 21, 2015

August 21, 2015

The high yesterday was supposed to be in the 80s. I didn't spend much time outside yesterday, but I gather that, if the temperature ever did reach 80°, it wasn't there long and rapidly dipped back into the 70s. I really don't think that happened.

The forecast for last night was a low of 70° — not quite as cool as the night before but still much cooler by comparison to recent nights. It was 71° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 26764 and 26765. Yesterday's reading was 26755. My consumption was only 9½ kWh.

Thursday, August 20, 2015

August 20, 2015

As astonishing as it is, the predicted cool front really did arrive, and it really did bring temperatures down. The temperature was in the low 90s yesterday, and it is expected to be in the 80s today. We also got some rain overnight.

The overnight low forecast also appears to have come true. In the last forecast I saw before I went to bed last night, they said we could expect a low of 68°. It was 66° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 26755. Yesterday's reading was 26737. Incredibly, my consumption was only 18 kWh in the last 24 hours — and, if today's forecast is correct, tomorrow's consumption should be even lower.

Wednesday, August 19, 2015

August 19, 2015

The temperature was probably a degree or two warmer yesterday than it has been — but the forecasters insist we will see improvement today and, especially, tomorrow. Today's high is expected to be around 93°. Tomorrow's high is expected to be in the 80s.

There is a 60% chance of rain this afternoon and tonight. Tonight's low is expected to be in the upper 60s. It was 81° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 26737. Yesterday's reading was 26700. My consumption was 37 kWh.

Tuesday, August 18, 2015

August 18, 2015

The temperature was probably in the mid–90s yesterday — still warm but noticeably cooler.

Last night's low was expected to be in the mid–70s. It was around 79° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 26700. Yesterday's reading was between 26666 and 26667. My consumption was 33½ kWh.

Monday, August 17, 2015

August 17, 2015

It was kind of overcast yesterday — there is talk of rain by the middle of the week — but it was still a warm day with highs in the mid–90s. As I have said before, that is an improvement over what we were getting a week or two ago, but it is still too hot for my taste.

Last night's low was expected to be in the mid–70s. It was 80° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 26666 and 26667. Yesterday's reading was between 26616 and 26617. My consumption was 50 kWh.

August 16, 2015

When you have lived in Texas for awhile, you learn to take forecasts of lower temperatures in the summer with at least a grain of salt — especially when you have been through a stretch of triple–digit days, as we have lately. But apparently the forecasts are coming true. The temperature was in the 90s yesterday, which is still hot but clearly not as oppressive as it has been.

If yesterday had been a weekday, I would have been at work all day, and my consumption would have been lower. Unlike weekdays, though, I was at home most of the day, and my electricity consumption reflects that.

Currently, the forecast calls for highs in the mid–90s for the next few days — then we may actually see it drop below 90° by midweek (accompanied by a 50% chance of rain). We shall see.

Last night's low was expected to be in the mid–70s. It was 76° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 26616 and 26617. Yesterday's reading was between 26571 and 26572. My consumption was 45 kWh.

Saturday, August 15, 2015

August 15, 2015

Well, the temperature does seem to be dropping. It isn't dropping dramatically, but it is dropping. Yesterday's high was 98°, according to the radio, which was roughly what had been predicted.

Last night's low was was expected to be between 76° and 78°. That, too, seems pretty close to the mark. The temperature was 78° when I woke up.

This morning's reading is between 26571 and 26572. Yesterday's reading was between 26537 and 26538. My consumption was 34 kWh.

Friday, August 14, 2015

August 14, 2015

I don't know if the temperature stayed below triple digits yesterday, but I do know that the radio reported a temperature of 98° when I was driving home — and that is definitely lower than the afternoon commute temperatures have been recently.

Last night's low was supposed to be 76°. It was 82° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 26537 and 26538. Yesterday's reading was between 26499 and 26500. My consumption was 38 kWh.

Thursday, August 13, 2015

August 13, 2015

Well, it appears the cool front that the forecasters were talking about really has come into the area. Cool is relative term around here at this time of the year, but the temperature did drop below triple digits yesterday (just barely).

Last night's low was expected to be 76°. I don't think it got quite that cool, but it did drop below 80° for the first time in weeks.

This morning's meter reading is between 26499 and 26500. Yesterday's reading was 26463. My consumption was 36½ kWh.

Wednesday, August 12, 2015

August 12, 2015

Well, they say a cool front got here yesterday and brought temperatures down a few degrees. It is still dreadfully hot, though. Yesterday's high was in triple digits. It is expected to drop into the upper 90s today.

Last night's low was — supposedly — going to be in the upper 70s, but it was 82° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 26463. Yesterday's meter reading was between 26423 and 26424. My consumption was 39½ kWh.

Tuesday, August 11, 2015

August 11, 2015

They said Sunday was the hottest day of the year, but yesterday was pretty hot, too. Supposedly, a cool front is coming soon, but they're still talking about triple digits today.

Last night's low was supposed to be in the low 80s, but it was 86° when I woke up (heat index 91°).

This morning's meter reading is between 26423 and 26424. Yesterday's reading was 26380. My consumption was 43½ kWh.

Monday, August 10, 2015

August 10, 2015

Yesterday's temperature was 104° when I checked the reading at 5 p.m. — but, because humidity was only 17%, the heat index was actually 101°. Today, the forecasters say we will hit 106°, then we'll start to "cool off" for a few days.

Last night's low was expected to be 82° — they say 70s are headed our way late in the week. It was around 84° when I woke up (heat index 86°).

This morning's meter reading is 26380. Yesterday's reading was 26326. My consumption was 54 kWh.

Sunday, August 9, 2015

August 9, 2015

We're stuck in this heat wave. I know we were in triple digits yesterday, and I spent as much time indoors as possible. I know the forecast says this triple–digit streak will continue until about the middle of the week — but a new one appears likely to start by the weekend.

Last night's low was expected to be in the low 80s. It was 84° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 26326. Yesterday's reading was between 26273 and 26274. My consumption was 52½ kWh.

Saturday, August 8, 2015

August 8, 2015

Yesterday was another hot day. I was inside for most of it, but the radio reported a temperature of 102° when I was driving home. They didn't say what the heat index was.

We're under this severe heat advisory until the middle of next week — and even then, it might still be in triple digits.

Last night's low was expected to be only 82°. It was 84° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 26273 and 26274. Yesterday's reading was 26228. My consumption was 45½ kWh.

Friday, August 7, 2015

August 7, 2015

Each day, the forecasters raise the bar a little higher on the duration of the severe heat advisory under which we are living these day. Yesterday, they said the advisory would expire this Sunday at 7 p.m. Now they say it will expire at 7 p.m. on Monday.

The temperature was definitely in triple digits yesterday. The NOAA website reported a temperature of 102° in the middle of the afternoon with a heat index of 107°. Roughly the same is expected today, then weekend temperatures are supposed to be higher.

It doesn't cool off at night. Last night's low was expected to be around 81°. When I got up around 6 a.m., the temperature was 85° with a heat index of 89°.

This morning's meter reading is 26228. Yesterday's reading was between 26192 and 26193. My consumption was 35½ kWh.

Thursday, August 6, 2015

August 6, 2015

At some point yesterday, we reached 100° and just kept going. The temperature was 102° when I left the office to go home. The heat index was 108°.

We're under a severe heat advisory until the middle of next week. That means we can expect triple–digit temperatures — between 103° and 105°, the forecasters say — every day, and nighttime lows won't drop below 80° — if they get that low at all.

Last night's low was expected to be 81°. It was 85° (heat index 89°) when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 26192 and 26193. Yesterday's reading was between 26151 and 26152. My consumption was 41 kWh.

Wednesday, August 5, 2015

August 5, 2015

The forecasters say we're facing severe heat conditions for the next several days, with highs around 103° and 104° by the weekend and continuing into early next week.

It isn't going to cool off much at night, either. Last night's low was supposed to be around 80° or 81°, but it was already 84° (with a heat index of 87°) when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 26151 and 26152. Yesterday's reading was 26113. My consumption was 38½ kWh.

Tuesday, August 4, 2015

August 4, 2015

I left the office at noon yesterday to run to the bank — the radio reported that the temperature was 91°. By late afternoon, when I left the office to drive home, the temperature was at least in the upper 90s and may well have been in triple digits.

Triple digits are expected this week, and late this week it sounds like we'll cross that triple–digit line with ease.

Last night's low was expected to be 80°. It was 83° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 26113. Yesterday's reading was 26080. My consumption was 33 kWh.

Monday, August 3, 2015

August 3, 2015

Yesterday was another hot summer day. I spent most of it indoors, but I'm pretty sure the temperature reached 97° or 98°. The forecasters have warned us that we're in for a week of mostly triple–digit days.

Last night's low was supposed to be 78°. It was 81° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 26080. Yesterday's reading was between 26034 and 26035. My consumption was 45½ kWh.

Sunday, August 2, 2015

August 2, 2015

Apparently, yesterday's temperature stayed in the 90s, but forecasters say we are headed back to triple–digit territory this week. Personally, I think they tend to low–ball their predictions. It always seems to be a little warmer than they say it will be — even in winter. Maybe they're hedging their bets.

Last night's low was supposed to be in the upper 70s. It was 80° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 26034 and 26035. Yesterday's reading was between 25988 and 25989. My consumption was 46 kWh.

Saturday, August 1, 2015

August 1, 2015

I heard on the radio that the temperature reached 104° on Thursday, but then it was supposed to drop back to 97° yesterday. I guess it did. It was hot when I went out to my car yesterday, but it didn't feel quite as hot as it did the day before.

Last night's low was predicted to be 75°. The temperature was 80° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 25988 and 25989. Yesterday's reading was between 25954 and 25955. My consumption was 34 kWh.
