November 30, 2015

We got a steady, light rain all day yesterday with temperatures that probably stayed in the low 50s. The rain seems to have tapered off overnight, but there is still standing water around my meter. Forecasters say we can expect drying conditions today so I am hoping I can take a picture of my meter tomorrow.

Last night's low was expected to be in the low 40s. It was 43° when I woke up.

Thursday's meter reading was 28464.

November 29, 2015

The rain continues. It isn't as heavy as it has been, but it has been fairly constant. I thought we might be finished with it yesterday afternoon when it seemed to stop entirely, but we got more rain during the night. I assume there is still standing water around my meter so I will give it another day and try to read my meter (and photograph it) tomorrow.

It was mostly overcast and my guess would be that the temperature never got out of the 40s yesterday.

It was expected to be in the 30s last night, and it was 38° when I woke up.

Thursday's meter reading was 28464.

November 28, 2015

It's been raining all night and into the morning — not heavy but steady — and that usually means standing water around my meter so I'll skip taking a picture of my meter today. I hope it will be more accommodating tomorrow.

It was overcast and mostly cold yesterday with occasional rain. We're under a flash flood watch until about 6 p.m. today and a flash flood warning until tomorrow evening. My guess is yesterday's temperature stayed in the 40s. It's possible it got into the 50s in the morning, but the forecasters said the temperature would drop in the afternoon. It was cold, rainy and dark when I left the office.

I don't know what last night's low was, but it was 38° when I woke up.

Thursday's meter reading was 28464.

November 27, 2015

Well, it has been raining all night, and experience tells me there is probably a lot of standing water around where my meter is located so I will wait until clearer weather before reading the meter again. According to the forecasters, that might be Sunday or Monday.

It didn't rain much yesterday — until after sundown. Then it went from spotty to fairly consistent by the time I went to bed. My guess is that our high yesterday was upper 60s, maybe even lower 70s.

Last night's low was only expected to be a little cooler. The cold front is expected to move into the area today. Nevertheless the temperature was 49° when I woke up.

Thursday's meter reading was 28464.

November 26, 2015

It was overcast and breezy but relatively mild yesterday. If the forecasters are correct, things will get progressively cooler and wetter as we get into the weekend.

But for this Thanksgiving Day, it is supposed to remain mild and relatively dry. There is about a 50% chance of rain after noon.

The temperatures were expected to be in the 60s last night, and apparently they were. The temperature was 66° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 28464. Yesterday's reading was between 28456 and 28457. Consumption was 7½ kWh.

November 25, 2015

Temperatures have been mostly in the 60s the last couple of days. It was overcast yesterday but no rain. Rain returns to the forecast tomorrow, Friday and Saturday, the forecasters say. We shall see.

Last night's low was supposed to be in the 50s. At least, that was my understanding. The temperature was 61° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 28456 and 28457. Yesterday's reading was 28451. Consumption was 5½ kWh.

November 24, 2015

It was mostly gray and cool yesterday as nearly as I could tell. I was inside most of the day, but it was cold when I left the apartment — as in close to freezing — and it was cool and overcast when I left the office. My guess is the temperature was in the 50s most of the day.

Last night's low was expected to be in the 40s. It was 49° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 28451. Yesterday's reading was 28439. Consumption was 12 kWh.

November 23, 2015

Yesterday was a clear and cool day with temperatures probably in the 50s. The wind was way down compared to the day before, but, with no clouds, temperatures were expected to be in the 30s overnight &mdash. which, apparently, they were.

The temperature was 38° when I woke up. They say it will be milder tonight with temperatures in the mid–40s.

This morning's meter reading is 28439. Yesterday's reading was 28419. Consumption was 20 kWh.

November 22, 2015

Well, the forecasters were right. Apparently we had our first freeze of the winter last night. We must have reached freezing, maybe even dropped a degree or two lower because it was only 34° when I woke up this morning. It was cold enough that I had no choice but to run the heat overnight. More of the same is expected tonight, then it is expected to warm up.

It was very windy yesterday, and I don't think we ever got above 52°. In fact, it may have dropped back into the 40s by the afternoon. That is what the forecasters told us to expect.

This morning's meter reading is 28419. Yesterday's reading was 28396. Consumption was 23 kWh.

Saturday, November 21, 2015

November 21, 2015

The temperature was mostly in the 60s yesterday. It may have reached 70° briefly, but it was in the 60s when I left the office.

The temperature was supposed to be in the 40s last night. It was 53° when I woke up.

In general, the weekend is expected to be much cooler. We will probably be lucky if the temperature is still in the 50s by midday, then the lows tonight and tomorrow night are expected to be at or near freezing.

This morning's meter reading is 28396. Yesterday's reading was 28389. Consumption was 7 kWh.

Friday, November 20, 2015

November 20, 2015

The temperature probably stayed mostly in the 60s yesterday. It may have been in the low 70s — briefly. The forecasters continue to say it will be much cooler this weekend — and now they are quite sure that North Texas will face its first freeze of the season Saturday night.

Last night's low was expected to be in the 40s. It was 53° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 28389. Yesterday's reading was between 28383 and 28384. Consumption was 5½ kWh.

Thursday, November 19, 2015

November 19, 2015

Temperatures were in the 60s yesterday, and the skies were mostly clear. It looks like that is what we can expect today and tomorrow, then temperatures are expected to plunge into the low 50s over the weekend. It is even possible that some areas will see their first freezes of the winter season with overnight lows dropping below 40°.

Last night's low was expected to be in the mid–40s. It was 47° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 28383 and 28384. Yesterday's reading was 28379. Consumption was 4½ kWh.

Wednesday, November 18, 2015

November 18, 2015

After the rain passed through the area, temperatures dropped into the 60s yesterday, and the water around my meter receded, but now there is a lot of mud, which I hope will dry by tomorrow. It is hard to walk/stand on that when I photograph my meter.

The overnight low was expected to be in the 40s. It was 50° when I woke up this morning.

This morning's meter reading is 28379. Monday's reading was between 28367 and 28368. My average daily consumption the last two days has been 5¾ kWh.

Tuesday, November 17, 2015

November 17, 2015

Yesterday's high was probably in the 70s. We had rain off and on, mostly during rush hour, which more than doubled my commute time.

Last night's low was expected to be in the 50s, and it was 54° when I woke up.

Because of the rain, there is probably a lot of standing water around my meter, so I am not going to read my meter this morning. If the rain isn't a problem tomorrow, I will read the meter then and calculate my average consumption. Yesteday's reading was between 28367 and 28368.

Monday, November 16, 2015

November 16, 2015

Yesterday was another mild day, overcast with temperatures in the 60s. By evening we started getting some rain but it seemed to taper off in the early A.M. However, more significant rain is expected later today and tomorrow.

Yesterday was mostly overcast, and the temperature probably never got above the low 60s. It was perfect football weather, great for anyone in the area who went to see a game.

Last night's low was expected to be in the 40s. As I tend to do on Sundays, I slept later than usual so I don't know if it got that low. It was 55° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 28358. Yesterday's reading was 28352. Consumption was 6 kWh.

Saturday, November 14, 2015

This morning's meter reading is 28352. Yesterday's reading was 28348. Consumption was 4 kWh.

Friday, November 13, 2015

November 13, 2015

It was much milder yesterday than it was the day before. My guess is that the temperature stayed in the 60s most of the day, but it might have been in the 70s briefly. It was mostly overcast, too, but once in awhile the sun did peek out.

Last night's low was expected to be in the mid–40s. It was 46° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 28348. Yesterday's reading was 28343. Consumption was 5 kWh.

And last night's low was expected to be in the 40s. I don't know if it got that low during the night. It was 55° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 28325. Yesterday's reading was 28317. Consumption was 8 kWh.

Sunday, November 8, 2015

November 8, 2015

Toward the end of last week, the forecasters were saying we could expect the coolest weekend we'd had since April with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s.

It was definitely mild yesterday, although I think it might have crept into the 70s briefly.

As I say, last night's low was expected to be in the 40s. It was 46° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 28317. Yesterday's reading was 28311. Consumption was 6 kWh.

Saturday, November 7, 2015

Yesterday was quite mild. The sky was overcast much of the day, and my best guess is that the temperature never got above the mid–70s.

I'm not sure what last night's low was expected to be — probably the 50s, which has been the expectation in nearly every recent forecast — but it was 69° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 28301. Yesterday's reading was between 28294 and 28295. Consumption was 6½ kWh.

Tuesday, November 3, 2015

November 3, 2015

Yesterday's high was probably in the mid–70s. That is the general forecast for the whole week, with slight variations from one day to the next, and I have seen no evidence that it will not be that way.

Last night's low was expected to be in the 50s — and that, too, is the general forecast for the whole week. It was 59° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 28288 and 28289. Yesterday's reading was 28282. Consumption was 6½ kWh.

Last night's temperature was expected to be in the 50s. It was 56° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 28282. Yesterday's reading was 28272. My consumption was 10 kWh.

Turning Point

I haven't been pleased with the arrangement my apartment has had for calculating utility bills recently. Apparently, it is the socialist model. They take the lump monthly sum of electricity consumption for the entire property and calculate how much each tenant owes based on the size of one's apartment, not based on actual consumption.

I always make an effort to keep my consumption down, which means I wind up paying for the consumption of a lot of other people. I have accepted it in the past because, based on my personal calculations, even though my costs were higher than they should have been, it wasn't that much or that blatant.

But my most recent experience with the landlord was my turning point.

When I went in to pay my rent and my utilities on Saturday, I had not received my utility bill. The delivery of that bill has been sloppy the last few months, never arriving in a timely fashion.

I had to ask what my utility bill was. It was $107 last month (which covered the month of August) — which is a bit high for an apartment as tiny as mine. The latest utility bill (which covered the month of September) was more than 38% higher than the previous month's bill — but I have photographic evidence on this blog that my consumption went down nearly 29% during the same time period.

Question: How can you justify charging a tenant 38% more when that tenant's consumption went down 29%? Answer: You can't.

I've told all this to several people, all of whom know about the existence of this blog.

My lease expires at the end of January. Things need to change around here.

November 1, 2015

As expected, the rain tapered off yesterday morning, and the day was mostly dry. Overcast but dry. And I'm pretty sure the temperature didn't get much above 75°.

I don't know what last night's expected low was, but it was 59° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 28272. Friday's reading was between 28259 and 28260. I averaged 6¼ kWh daily consumption over the last couple of days.
