January 31, 2016

Yesterday was an incredibly mild day for January. It was a bit windy, but the high was in the upper 70s, and more of that is expected today and even tomorrow. In fact, the latest forecasts say it will be in the 60s on Tuesday so we may not see more seasonable temperatures until Wednesday.

Last night's low was expected to be around 55°. It was 59° when I woke up.

Today's meter reading is 29671. Yesterday's reading was between 29662 and 29663. Consumption was 8½ kWh.

The anticipated warm front arrived here yesterday, and forecasts indicate we can expect temperatures in the 70s into next week. It was 75° when I left the office.

Last night's low was expected to be around 50°. Today is Saturday so I slept later than usual, but it was 48° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 29662 and 29663. Yesterday's reading was between 29658 and 29659. Consumption was 4 kWh.

The anticipated warm front arrived yesterday, bringing temperatures in the 60s. The forecasters say we can expect temperatures in the 70s for the next three or four days.

I don't know how cold it was last night, but I do know it was 40° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 29658 and 29659. Yesterday's reading was 29652. Consumption was 6½ kWh.

January 28, 2016

I'm not sure what yesterday's temperature was. Forecasters said it would be in the 50s, about the same as the day before, but it probably felt warmer because the skies were clear and there was apparently little in the way of wind.

Last night's low was expected to be in the mid–30s. It was 38° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 29652. Yesterday's reading was 29638. Consumption was 14 kWh.

January 27, 2016

As predicted, yesterday was much cooler. Well, perhaps much is a stretch. It was 51° when I left the office, and it may have been even warmer than that at some point, but it was overcast all day and a bit breezy. So it may well have felt colder than it actually was.

Forecasters said it would be around freezing last night. They were probably right. It was 33° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 29638. Yesterday's reading was 29613. Consumption was 25 kWh.

January 26, 2016

Yesterday was a sunny and, apparently, mild day. From my office window, I could see that the sun was shining, and the temperature apparently got into the 60s. It was 63° when I left the office.

But the latest cool front was expected to come through the area overnight, bringing a low of 39° and highs over the next couple of days in the 50s (with lows around freezing). The temperature was 41° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 29613. Yesterday's reading was 29603.

Monday, January 25, 2016

January 25, 2016

Yesterday was pretty warm for January. It was sunny with a temperature in the low 60s. It felt a bit cooler than that because of a strong wind. Forecasters say today's high will be in the 60s, then back in the 50s tomorrow and Wednesday.

Last night's low was only expected to be 50°. It was 57° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 29603. Yesterday's reading was 29594. Consumption was 9 kWh.

It was sunny and a bit warmer yesterday. Temperatures were supposed to be in the 50s. I don't know what yesterday's high was, but I'm sure we were in the 50s for awhile yesterday afternoon.

It wasn't quite as cold last night, either. The temperature was supposed to be in the mid–30s. It was 38° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 29594. Yesterday's reading was between 29563 and 29564. Consumption was 30½ kWh.

January 23, 2016

Yesterday was overcast, and I doubt that the temperature got much above 40°, but there was no precipitation. Unlike the eastern half of the U.S., which is enduring a winter storm of historic proportions. The storm passed us by. We were fortunate this time.

But it has certainly been colder around here in the last 24 to 36 hours. Last night's low was expected to be in the 20s. It was 31° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 29563 and 29564. Yesterday's reading was 29533. Consumption was 30½ kWh.

Friday, January 22, 2016

January 22, 2016

It was cold and rainy yesterday. We even got some hail. I was under the impression that the temperature would rise into the 50s, but I don't think we made it. It was around 40° or 41° when I left the office.

Last night's low was predicted to be around freezing. It was 36° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 29533. Yesterday's reading was between 29500 and 29501. Consumption was 32½ kWh.

Thursday, January 21, 2016

January 21, 2016

The forecasters said we would get into the low 50s yesterday. Maybe we did, but the temperature was in the upper 40s when I left the office.

The temperature doesn't seem to have changed much overnight. It was 49° when I woke up this morning.

This morning's meter reading is between 29500 and 29501. Yesterday's reading was between 29484 and 29485. Consumption was 16 kWh.

Wednesday, January 20, 2016

Tuesday, January 19, 2016

January 19, 2016

Yesterday was a sunny but cold day. The temperature never got above the mid–40s. Forecasters say it should be much warmer today, possibly into the low 60s.

Last night's low was expected to be around 40°. It was 41° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 29463. Yesterday's reading was 29437. Consumption was 26 kWh.

Monday, January 18, 2016

January 18, 2016

The temperature was back in the 50s for awhile yesterday, and the sun came out so it didn't feel too bad. Today's high is expected to be 45°.

Cold temperatures were in the overnight forecast. A low of 29° was expected. It was 28° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 29437. Yesterday's reading was 29408. My consumption was 29 kWh.

January 17, 2016

The weather did turn colder yesterday as predicted. The temperature stayed in the 40s most of the day, but it was overcast and, for a time, we got a light rain.

The overnight low was expected to be 32°. I'll bet it got colder than that because I woke up well after sunrise this morning, and the temperature was 32°.

Experience tells me that, when it gets really cold, you just have to bite the bullet and run the heat enough to keep you warm. We're all trying to save money, but skimping on the heat in winter is foolish. It's an easy trap in which to fall when you live in Texas, and we have been lulled into a false sense of security that makes us want to continue to keep consumption down even when conditions change. My consumption lately has been at a level I normally see in the spring and fall.

But this is January. I have to expect some wintry conditions — even though this winter has been maybe the warmest I have seen around here with days when the temperature soared into the upper 70s, even low 80s at times. And, for most of this week, daytime highs were cool but not cold.

This morning's meter reading is 29408. Yesterday's reading was between 29365 and 29366. My consumption was 42½ kWh.

Saturday, January 16, 2016

January 16, 2016

I believe the temperature was in the low 60s yesterday. That is what the forecast called for, and it was sunny so, even though I didn't spend any time outdoors, it looked mild from my office window.

But it's turning colder. Last night's low was expected to be 40°. It was 45° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 29365 and 29366. Yesterday's reading was between 29360 and 29361. Consumption was 5 kWh.

Friday, January 15, 2016

January 15, 2016

The temperature got well into the 60s yesterday. When I left the office, the radio reported that the temperature was 65°. Since that was around 5:30 p.m., I can only assume the temperature was a few degrees warmer at some point yesterday.

The forecast called for a low in the mid–40s. It was 48° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 29360 and 29361. Yesterday's reading was 29354. My consumption was 6½ kWh.

Thursday, January 14, 2016

January 14, 2016

Yesterday's temperature was in the 60s, as expected. It was about 61° when I left the office.

This morning's meter reading is 29354. Yesterday's reading was 29346. My consumption was 8 kWh.

Wednesday, January 13, 2016

January 13, 2016

Yesterday was a sunny day, and the temperature got into the low 60s. There is talk of more of the same today and tomorrow, then things will cool off considerably.

Last night's low was expected to be in the 40s. It was 40° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 29346. Yesterday's reading was 29336. Consumption was 10 kWh.

Tuesday, January 12, 2016

January 12, 2016

I spent most of the day indoors yesterday so I don't what the high temperature was, but my guess would be that it remained in the 40s. Forecasts call for a high in the 50s today.

Last night's low was expected to be in the 30s. It was 36° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 29336. Yesterday's reading was between 29311 and 29312. Consumption was 24½ kWh.

Monday, January 11, 2016

January 11, 2016

The weather yesterday was much like the day before — cold but not quite as overcast. My guess would be that the temperature got into the low to mid–40s before dipping into the 30s after sunset.

Last night's low was expected to be around freezing. It was 32° when I woke up this morning.

This morning's meter reading is between 29311 and 29312. Yesterday's reading was 29271. Consumption was 40½ kWh.

Sunday, January 10, 2016

January 10, 2016

It was overcast and cold most of the day yesterday, with a few sprinkles here and there. I doubt yesterday's temperature got above 40° for most of the day. Probably spent most of it in the 30s.

It was cold last night, too. They said it would be below freezing, and it was 28° when I woke up.

Experience tells me that this leads to extreme increases in daily electricity consumption, and I was right. This morning's meter reading is 29271. Yesterday's reading was between 29220 and 29221. My consumption was 50½ kWh.

They say we should see gradually warming conditions this week, but nothing terribly dramatic. Consumption may remain elevated for awhile.

Saturday, January 9, 2016

January 9, 2016

The temperature did get into the 60s yesterday, as expected, but it was overcast most of the day, and the temperature had dipped back into the 50s by the time I left the office.

Forecasters told us a cold front would move into the area overnight, and they were right. It was 42° when I woke up. I'm betting it got colder than that during the night.

This morning's meter reading is between 29220 and 29221. Yesterday's reading was between 29208 and 29209. My consumption was 12 kWh.

Friday, January 8, 2016

January 8, 2016

The temperature was supposed to get into the 60s yesterday, and I am pretty sure it did in the afternoon. It was cool in the morning, but it was in the low 60s when I left the office, and the sun was out for a good chunk of the day.

Last night's low was expected to be in the 40s, and that, too, appears to have been the case. It was 47° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 29208 and 29209. Yesterday's reading appeared to be between 29202 and 29203. My consumption was 6 kWh.

Thursday, January 7, 2016

January 7, 2016

It was overcast most of the day, but the temperature did manage to reach 50° for awhile in the afternoon. We got rain overnight, as expected, but it appears to have been mostly light.

Last night's low was expected to be in the 40s. It was 49° when I woke up.

Because of conditions, it is hard to read this morning's meter photo, but it appears to be between 29202 and 29203. Yesterday's reading was 29187. If that is correct, my consumption was 15½ kWh.

Wednesday, January 6, 2016

January 6, 2016

The sun was out for part of the day yesterday, but it got cloudy in the afternoon. I doubt the temperature got out of the 40s.

Because of the cloud cover, forecasters didn't think the temperature would drop very much overnight. It was 42° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 29187. Yesterday's reading was between 29167 and 29168. Consumption was19½ kWh.

Tuesday, January 5, 2016

January 5, 2016

The sun came out yesterday, but the temperature stayed on the cool side. My guess would be that it was in the low 50s in the afternoon, which was roughly what had been predicted, I think.

Last night's low was expected to be about 31°. It was 33° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 29167 and 29168. Yesterday's reading was 29141. Consumption was 26½ kWh.

Monday, January 4, 2016

January 4, 2016

Forecasters said the temperature would be in the mid–50s yesterday, but I really believe it got closer to 60° than anyone expected.

It was supposed to be around freezing last night. It was 32° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 29141. Yesterday's reading was 29123. My consumption was 18 kWh.

Sunday, January 3, 2016

January 3, 2016

The sky was overcast for much of the day yesterday, but I am pretty sure temperatures reached 50° for awhile. It was cool but not what I would call cold yesterday.

This morning's meter reading is 29123. Yesterday's reading was 29098. Consumption was 25 kWh.

Saturday, January 2, 2016

Yesterday was pretty mild as first days of the year tend to go around here. The temperature got into the upper 40s and might have made it to 50°. There was occasional sun; mostly it was overcast.

Last night the temperature was expected to drop into the 30s. Perhaps it did. It was 40° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 29098. Yesterday's reading was 29071. Consumption was 27 kWh.

Friday, January 1, 2016

January 1, 2016

The forecasters said the temperature wouldn't get out of the 40s yesterday, but, according to the radio, it made it to 50° or 51°. The sun came out and, while it didn't feel warm exactly, it didn't feel cold, either.

It got cold last night. Forecasters said it would be in the mid–30s last night. It was 38° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 29071. Yesterday's reading was 29044. Consumption was 27 kWh.
