February 28, 2013

My electricity consumption appears to have been constant in the last 24 hours.

Yesterday's consumption was 5½ kWh and so was today's.

This morning's meter reading was 8334. Yesterday's reading was between 8328 and 8329.

February 27, 2013

My electricity consumption went down again in the last 24 hours. I can only attribute it to the fact that I haven't been able to access the internet at home this week.

This morning's meter reading was between 8328 and 8329. Yesterday's reading was 8323 so my consumption was about 5½ kWh. Yesterday, my usage was 6 kWh — ½ kWh higher.

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

February 26, 2013

It was cooler yesterday than it was the day before, but my electricity consumption went down.

This morning's meter reading was 8323. Yesterday's reading was 8317. My usage in the last 24 hours was 6 kWh — 1 kWh lower than the day before.

Monday, February 25, 2013

February 25, 2013

The temperature climbed into the 70s yesterday, and the low last night was in the 50s.

I didn't expect much of in the way of electricity consumption, and I was right.

This morning's meter reading was 8317. Yesterday's reading was 8310. Thus, my usage was 7 kWh.

Sunday, February 24, 2013

February 24, 2013

Yesterday's high was probably in the upper 50s or lower 60s. Last night's low was probably in the mid– to upper 30s.

I don't think my heat came on in the last 24 hours.

Nevertheless, my electricity consumption went up — to 9 kWh. I know that doesn't sound like much, but I try to identify the sources of such fluctuations because I know a time will come when I will look for each way to trim my electricity consumption that I can find, no matter how small the savings might be.

Today's meter reading is 8310. Yesterday's reading was 8301.

Friday's reading was between 8294 and 8295 so my consumption from Friday to Saturday was 6½ kWh. That's an increase of more than 38%.

February 23, 2013

I'm hoping that the current cold spell we are enduring here in north Texas will be short lived.

The temperature dropped to around freezing last night, and I know my heat came on at least a couple of times because I remember waking up during the night and hearing it. Consequently, I expected my electricity consumption to go up, perhaps into double digits.

Well, that was what I expected. But it wasn't what I found when I went out to check my meter.

This morning's reading is 8301. Yesterday's reading was between 8294 and 8295. My usage, therefore, was about 6½ kWh in the last 24–hour period.

Thursday's reading was about 8287 so my usage in that 24–hour period was about 7½ kWh.

Wednesday's reading was between 8280 and 8281 so my usage for that 24–hour period was about 6½ kWh.

Thursday was quite warm, much warmer than Friday — so I would say my usage has been consistent.

February 22, 2013

The rain slipped out of the area yesterday morning and was replaced by a warm and sunny day. Daytime highs must have been in the upper 60s or possibly lower 70s.

Nevertheless, it got cold after midnight. When I got up, the temperature was about 35°. I didn't know what to expect when I went out to check my meter.

But the heat from my downstairs neighbors seems to be paying off. This morning's meter reading is between 8294 and 8295. Yesterday's reading was 8287 so my consumption was about 7½ kWh.

That's a slight increase over the previous 24–hour period. Wednesday morning's meter reading was between 8280 and 8281 so my consumption in that period was about 6½ kWh.

Thursday, February 21, 2013

February 21, 2013

The temperature probably didn't crack 50° yesterday.

If it did, it only briefly did so.

But it didn't fluctuate much, if at all. If it felt a lot colder last night, it was because of the wind effect — which, of course, was not noticeable indoors.

Anyway, my electricity consumption appears to have been virtually unchanged.

Yesteday's meter reading was 8280. Today's reading is 8287. Thus, my usage was 7 kWh.

Tuesday's reading was between 8274 and 8275. My consumption was about 1½ kWh lower in the previous 24–hour period.

Wednesday, February 20, 2013

February 20, 2013

It is cold and drizzly today.

The temperature dropped into the 40s last night, which isn't unusual these days, but the forecast says it won't get out of the 40s today, and that is unusual.

But daytime highs will be back in the 60s tomorrow and nearly every day in the seven–day forecast.

In spite of the cold, damp weather, my electricity consumption remained in single digits. Today's meter reading is between 8280 and 8281. Yesterday's reading was between 8274 and 8275.

My usage, therefore, was 6 kWh. Yesterday, my consumption was about 7 kWh. That's a decrease of more than 14%.

Tuesday, February 19, 2013

February 19, 2013

Yesterday was a mild, sunny day.

It got a little cold last night, but, when I got up this morning, I didn't think the heat came on during the night.

It may have, though.

Today's reading is between 8274 and 8275. Yesterday's reading was between 8267 and 8268 so my consumption was about 7 kWh.

That is a slight increase over yesterday.

Monday, February 18, 2013

February 18, 2013

The last 24 hours were windy but nice.

Yesterday's high was in the 70s, and last night's low was in the upper 50s.

And I returned to single digits in electricity consumption.

This morning's meter reading is 8267. Yesterday's reading was between 8260 and 8261. My consumption was 6½ kWh — about a 38% drop since my last meter reading.

Sunday, February 17, 2013

February 17, 2013

Yesterday's daytime high was probably in the low 50s, and last night's low was probably around 40°.

Seventies are expected today and tomorrow, and tonight's low is supposed to be around 57° so I think I have every reason to expect low electricity usage for the next couple of days.

But, at least once last night, my heat came on so I didn't know what to expect when I read the meter today.

Apparently, though, there was nothing to worry about. I'm not sure how much heat my downstairs neighbors are using, but it has kept my consumption consistent.

This morning's meter reading is between 8260 and 8261. Yesterday's reading was around 8250 so my consumption was 10½ kWh.

Friday's reading was between 8239 and 8240 so my consumption between Friday and Saturday was also 10½ kWh.

That is certainly better than it was in late December and early February, but I'm eager for those 70° days to return so my consumption will drop into single digits again.

Saturday, February 16, 2013

February 16, 2013

As per forecasts, the temperature dropped to around freezing last night, and I know that my heat came on at least once during the night.

It didn't stay on very long, and I wasn't sure if that was the only time it came on during the night or if it came on other times as well. I slept a little better last night than I have since slipping and falling on Tuesday.

Well, I wasn't sure until I went out to check my meter this morning.

And, to be honest, I'm still not sure.

What I am sure of is that, although my electricity consumption did go into double digits, it didn't do so by much.

This morning's reading is 8250. Yesterday's reading was between 8239 and 8240 so my consumption was 10½ kWh. Thursday's reading was about 8233. Thus, the previous day's consumption was 6½ kWh.

That's an increase of better than 60% — but, at this level, it doesn't necessarily mean that much unless the trend continues.

But the forecasts for the next week don't seem likely to cause that.

Friday, February 15, 2013

February 15, 2013

We had a rather balmy day yesterday. Temperatures were in the upper 60s, maybe the low 70s.

And the overnight low was in the 40s.

So I wasn't really surprised that my electricity consumption was about the same as it has been. As far as I know, my heat never kicked on yesterday.

But it might come on tonight or tomorrow night. Forecast lows are in the 30s.

Anyway, today's meter reading is between 8239 and 8240. Yesterday's reading was 8233 so my usage was about 6½ kWh. In recent days, I have consumed roughly 7 kWh in every 24–hour period.

Thursday, February 14, 2013

February 14, 2013

The temperature today is supposed to be in the 60s, then it will cool off tonight and we'll be back in the 50s for awhile.

My electricity consumption remained in single digits. Today's meter reading is 8233. Yesterday's reading was 8225.

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

February 13, 2013

It was noticeably cooler yesterday and last night than it has been — and wetter — although I suppose the temperatures we've had for the last 24 hours have been more the norm for this area at this time of the year.

But, after a few balmy, spring–like days, it is amazing how cold seasonable weather can seem.

I'm quite sure the temperature dropped into the 30s during the night. And, even though I slipped on some wet grass and fell yesterday after I checked my meter, which left me with some soreness in my back, I did manage to get some sleep — so I couldn't say if the heat came on or if the apartment stayed acceptably warm from the heat from downstairs.

At least, not until I went out to check my meter this morning.

It appears the heat did not come on, that the neighbors' heat has been sufficient to keep this apartment warm.

This morning's reading is 8225. Yesterday, the reading was between 8218 and 8219. Thus, my usage was 6½ kWh. That is only a little higher than my usage in the previous 24 hours. My meter reading on Monday was 8213.

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

February 12, 2013

I was inside most of the day yesterday, but it appears to have been mostly overcast, maybe a little drizzly — and cooler than it has been.

And the forecasts say it won't be any better today. The latest forecast I have seen calls for highs in the mid–50s with an 80% chance of rain, then a low tonight in the upper 30s.

In fact, the forecasts for the next week are pretty discouraging — highs mostly in the 50s and lows mostly in the 30s. There are a few isolated exceptions, but, this being Texas, that can change in short order.

Anyway, it's raining most of the night and it is overcast this morning. I realize that affects the quality of the picture.

In case you can't see it too well, this morning's meter reading is between 8218 and 8219. Yesterday's reading was 8213 so my cosumption in the last 24 hours was about 5½ kWh.

Monday, February 11, 2013

February 11, 2013

Sunday was mild. Not much sunshine, but the temperature got into the upper 60s.

Last night's low probably wasn't quite as cool as predicted, but the forecasts are still calling for 30s later this week. Winter isn't quite finished with us yet.

Neither am I finished with my single–digit electricity days.

This morning's meter reading is 8213. Yesterday's reading was 8205, which means my consumption was 8 kWh.

That's a drop from the previous 24–hour period. Saturday's meter reading was 8196.

My consumption dropped by 1 kWh — or about 11% — in the last 24 hours.

Sunday, February 10, 2013

February 10, 2013

Yesterday was probably more seasonable than today will be.

The temperature yesterday might have reached the 60s, and the lows have been in the 50s. Today's forecast calls for a high of 70°, but then some cooler weather is expected to move into the area and daytime highs are expected to be in the 50s — with a couple of highs in the 60s scattered about — and, currently, the forecast says rain is likely on Tuesday.

We had some rain last night, but I don't think temperatures dropped below the 50s. Thanks to my downstairs neighbors, I don't think my heat has kicked on for quite awhile.

Anyway, there has been a very clear pattern in my electricity consumption for the last three weeks or so — which roughly coincides with the time when my neighbors moved in.

Today's meter reading is 8205. Yesterday's reading was 8196 so my consumption stayed below double digits at 9 kWh.

Nevertheless, that is an increase over the last few days. Friday's reading was between 8189 and 8190 so my consumption from Friday to Saturday was 6½ kWh — which is about the same as my usage from Thursday to Friday. Thursday's reading was 8183.

The reading on Wednesday was between 8174 and 8175 so consumption from Wednesday to Thursday was much like the last 24 hours — about 8½ kWh.

Honestly, I can't think of anything that was significantly different in my consumption.

Saturday, February 9, 2013

February 9, 2013

The cool front brought cooler temperatures yesterday but no real change in my electricity consumption.

This morning's meter reading is 8196. Yesterday's reading was between 8189 and 8190; thus my consumption was 6½ kWh. The reading on Thursday was 8183 so my consumption in the previous 24–hour period was also 6½ kWh.

Friday, February 8, 2013

February 8, 2013

The temperature got into the 80s yesterday — or so I am told. It was in the 60s when I went up to the campus, and I was indoors through the afternoon. It was probably in the 70s when I left.

Then, last night, it seemed to drop into the mid–40s. That's more seasonable, I suppose, and I hear it is bringing cooler temperatures to the area.

I didn't know what this would do to my electricity consumption, but, apparently, the answer is "not much." In fact, it appears to have dropped a bit.

This morning's reading is between 8189 and 8190. Yesterday's reading was 8183. My usage in the last 24 hours was kWh.

The reading on Wednesday was between 8174 and 8175 so my usage for that 24–hour period was kWh. That's a drop of about 24%.

Thursday, February 7, 2013

February 7, 2013

Yesterday was a lot like the other days we have enjoyed around here recently — quite mild — and I expected my daily electricity consumption to stay in single digits.

As it has for about the last three weeks.

And I was right. Today's meter reading is 8183. Yesterday, the reading was between 8174 and 8175.

No abrupt changes are in the forecast until next week.

Wednesday, February 6, 2013

February 6, 2013

Yesterday was another mild day, and last night's temperatures were supposed to be in the 50s.

That's been the pattern for the last few weeks so I expected another day in which my electricity consumption was in single digits.

And it was.

This morning's meter reading is between 8174 and 8175. Yesterday, the reading was between 8167 and 8168.

Tuesday, February 5, 2013

February 5, 2013

We're settling into a pattern in which the daytime highs are forecast to be in the 70s and the lows at night are expected to be in the 50s.

That's how it appeared to be yesterday, but I spent most of the day indoors on campus so I don't really know.

I doubt that my heat ever came on yesterday or last night; consequently, I expected another low electricity usage day. I wasn't sure how much electricity I used, but I felt confident my consumption would be in single digits.

And I was right.

This morning's meter reading is between 8167 and 8168. Since yesterday's reading was 8161, I clearly stayed below double digits.

Monday, February 4, 2013

February 4, 2013

I am disappointed this morning.

I'm quite certain my heat never came on yesterday. It was another mild day with temperatures in the 60s and last night's low was in the 50s. It was 57° when I got up this morning.

I expected my utility consumption to be below 10 kWh for the 18th consecutive day. But I was wrong.

This morning's meter reading is 8161. Yesterday's reading was 8151. Thus, my usage was in double digits. Barely.

Nevertheless, I was really expecting my usage to be lower.

Sunday, February 3, 2013

February 3, 2013

Around here yesterday, it was sunny and mild — I've heard that the temperature got into the 70s — but it did get a little cold last night.

Consequently, my electricity consumption went up from what it has been the last few days — but it remained in single digits. In fact, my daily consumption has been below 10 kWh for the last 17 days.

Today's meter reading is 8151. Yesterday's reading was between 8143 and 8144 so my consumption was 7½ kWh. The reading on Friday was between 8139 and 8140 so my consumption between Friday and Saturday was about 4 kWh.

Actually, my usage went up more than 46% — but, at this level of consumption, that doesn't really mean much.

Saturday, February 2, 2013

February 2, 2013

Today is Groundhog Day, which seems appropriate, given the fact that the movie of the same name was all about re–living the same day repeatedly.

Well, it is appropriate as far as my electricity consumption is concerned.

For the last two days, it has been very low. As I wrote here before, I think that is because of my new neighbors downstairs. Although the nights lately have been rather cold (forecasts are calling for warmer nights in the coming week), my consumption has been quite low — and, based on the readings for the last few days, remarkably consistent.

Today's meter reading is between 8143 and 8144. Yesterday's reading was between 8139 and 8140 so my consumption appears to have been around 4 kWh for the last 24 hours.

Thet's just barely below my apparent consumption between Thursday and Friday. Thursday's reading was 8135 so my consumption in the previous 24 hours was around 4½ kWh.

I don't mind if this level of consumption continues for awhile.

Friday, February 1, 2013

February 1, 2013

I was on campus most of the day yesterday, but I heard that the temperature reached 70°. It might have been warmer than that. I was inside almost all afternoon.

Temperatures cooled off considerably overnight. In fact, I'm sure the lows were near freezing in this area.

However, I do not think my heat kicked on last night. I may have benefited from the presence of my new neighbors downstairs.

Still, it was quite warm in my apartment when I woke up

I'm never certain about how often or how long my heat runs at night, of course. Anything could happen while I am asleep.

But one look at the meter this morning was enough to convince me.

Today's reading is between 8139 and 8140. Yesterday's reading was 8135. Obviously, my usage in the last 24 hours was about 4½ kWh.

I don't know precisely how that happened, but I'm not going to argue with it. The memory of late December and early January is still fresh in my mind.
