May 31, 2015

The rain seems to be gone today, and the forecast looks dry for most, if not all, of the week ahead. Temperatures should also be on their way up — 90s are predicted late in the week.

We got some rain yesterday morning, and it stayed cloudy most of the day, but the rain held off in the afternoon and evening.

Last night's low was expected to be in the 60s, and it was around 65° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 23965 and 23966. Thursday's reading was 23919. That's 46½ kWh over three days, which is an average of 15½ kWh per day.

May 30, 2015

Yesterday wasn't as warm as the day before nor was it as wet. For the most part, it was probably fairly typical of a late spring day in north Texas.

What hasn't been typical is the heavy rain we've had lately, and apparently it was back during the night. It's been raining since I got up, too. Until we get the chance to dry out a bit, additional rain will only mean flash flooding. There is nowhere for the rain to go.

Last night's low was expected to be in the upper 60s, but it was 74° when I woke up. It was raining again, so I can only conclude that cloud cover during the night kept the temperature steady.

I'm going to assume that the area around my meter has a few inches of standing water, so I won't photograph the meter today. Sunday sounds like it will be dry. Perhaps I can take the photo then and calculate a daily average. Thursday's reading was 23919.

May 29, 2015

We had all kinds of weather in the last 24 hours.

Most of the day yesterday was sunny and warm. I heard that it reached 90°, but it was cooling off and clouding over by the time I left the office. There was some light rain as I made my commute to Dallas.

Then, last night, storms came through. Based on the radar I saw before I went to bed, it was a line of storms that stretched from Tulsa well into Texas — several hundred miles.

The low last night was expected to be in the low 70s. It was 70° when I woke up.

As I say, we had more rain during the night, enough that the drainage issues popped up again and there are a few inches of standing water where my meter is so there will be no photo this morning. I'll calculate a daily average when I am able to read the meter again. Yesterday's reading was 23919.

May 28, 2015

The temperature got well into the 80s yesterday, and rain never really materialized where I live, but I could see lightning flashes in the distance after the sun went down.

Rain apparently remains in the forecast through the weekend — May is typically the wettest month of the year in Texas, anyway, and the forecasters are already telling us this has been the wettest May here ever.

The forecasters said last night's low would be around 70°. It was 75° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 23919. Yesterday's reading was 23903. My consumption in the last 24 hours was 16 kWh.

Wednesday, May 27, 2015

May 27, 2015

We got a little rain, but not much yesterday. It was mostly overcast, as it has been for a few weeks now. The temperature probably stayed in the 70s most of the day. It may have gotten into the low 80s by late afternoon. We got some pretty good rain for awhile last night, but it was over by the time I went to bed.

Last night's low was expected to be around 70°. It was 65° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 23903. Yesterday's reading was 23892. My consumption was 11 kWh.

May 26, 2015

Yesterday was a soggy Memorial Day. It didn't really start out that way, but the much–anticipated rain finally came in the afternoon and persisted into the evening. I don't think it got too warm, really, but it was humid.

Last night's low was expected to be in the upper 60s. It was 65° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 23892. Yesterday's reading was between 23881 and 23882. My consumption was 10½ kWh.

Monday, May 25, 2015

May 25, 2015

The heavy rain that was predicted for yesterday never really materialized. It rained in the morning and remained overcast for much of the day, but it was mostly dry. My guess is that the temperature got to 80°, maybe a few degrees warmer than that.

Apparently we got some light rain last night, and heavy rain is back in the forecast today. We'll see how it plays out.

Last night's low was expected to be 70°. It was 71° when I woke up this morning.

This morning's meter reading is between 23881 and 23882. Saturday morning's reading was 23851. My average daily consumption for the last two days has been roughly 15¼ kWh.

May 24, 2015

I think yesterday's tempeature stayed in the 70s. It was overcast and a little wet at times.

Rain returned to the area overnight and is expected to continue through today and into the night so I expect temperatures in the 70s today (the official forecast calls for a high of 78°).

Tonight's low is expected to be in the 60s. It was 67° when I woke up.

As wet as it is, I'm not going to try to read my meter. Experience tells me that, when it rains, drainage issues around here leave a couple of inches of standing water to wade through to get to my meter, and I don't feel like doing that today. If it is drier tomorrow, I will photograph my meter. If not, I'll try to do it on Tuesday.

Yesterday's reading was 23851.

Saturday, May 23, 2015

May 23, 2015

The temperatures weren't quite as cool yesterday as they were the day before, but they were still below average for this time of year. We also got some spotty rain yesterday but nothing major.

Rain chances appear quite good for tonight and tomorrow, though. Looks like we might be in for a soggy Memorial Day weekend.

Last night's low was supposed to be in the mid– to upper 60s. It was 70° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 23851. Yesterday's reading was 23842. My usage in the last 24 hours was 9 kWh.

Friday, May 22, 2015

May 22, 2015

Yesterday was cooler than the day before. We had some rain early, but it ended and remained mostly dry the rest of the day. My guess would be that the temperature never got above 70° — but I was indoors most of the day.

Last night's low was expected to be 61°. It was 62° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 23842. Wednesday's reading was 23819. My average consumption the last couple of days has been 11½ kWh per day.

Thursday, May 21, 2015

May 21, 2015

It was much warmer yesterday. I think the temperature probably got into the 90s, but the forecasters would only acknowledge upper 80s.

Either way, it was warm — and the rain didn't materialize, although it might materialize today. It's been raining for awhile this morning.

Last night's low was expected to be 61°. It was 60° when I woke up.

Yesterday's reading was 23819. It's been raining this morning so I won't walk over to the meter to take a photo. I'll do an average next time I'm able to get over there.

Wednesday, May 20, 2015

May 20, 2015

Yesterday was cooler than the day before. The temperature was in the low 80s, which isn't exactly cool, but it was overcast most of the day and just felt milder.

We had some occasional rain, but nothing heavy. There is talk that we can expect that today.

Last night's low was expected to be 70° — forecasts for tonight and tomorrow night indicate a low around 62°. It was 71° when I woke up this morning.

This morning's meter reading is 23819. Yesterday's reading was between 23800 and 23801. My consumption in the last 24 hours was 18½ kWh.

Tuesday, May 19, 2015

May 19, 2015

When I left the office yesterday afternoon, the radio reported that the temperature was in the upper 80s. It would not surprise me if the temperature hit 90° at some point in the afternoon.

Whether it did or not, it was quite warm yesterday afternoon, and we had no rain. Today may be a different story. The chance for rain apparently will increase the farther we go into this day.

Last night's low was expected to be 69°. It was 72° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 23800 and 23801. Yesterday's reading was between 23781 and 23782. My consumption in the last 24 hours was 19 kWh.

Monday, May 18, 2015

May 18, 2015

The rain never materialized yesterday — at least, not in this area. It wasn't sunny all day; in fact, it was overcast much of the day. But it was warm, mis–80s most of the afternoon — if not upper 80s.

Last night's low was expected to be around 70°, which is precisely what the temperature was when I got up this morning.

This morning's meter reading is between 23781 and 23782. Saturday morning's reading was between 23733 and 23734. Over two days, that averages 24 kWh per day.

May 17, 2015

Yesterday was a reminder that summer is closer than we think. It has been rainy and, overall, a bit cooler than normal this spring, but this is Texas, and hot weather this time of the year is as close to a sure thing as you will encounter.

The temperature was in the upper 80s, possibly even the lower 90s, and it seemed muggy to me even though I don't think we got any rain, although it was overcast much of the day.

The rain returned during the night, though. It wasn't severe enough to wake me, but it was apparently heavy enough to cause problems in this drainage–challenged property. Last night's low was expected to be around 70°. It was 69° when I woke up.

Due to the standing water where my meter is located, there will be no picture today. I simply don't care to stand in several inches of water to shoot a picture. I'll do an average based on my next picture, be it tomorrow or the day after. There is a chance of rain in the daily forecast all week. Yesterday's reading was between 23733 and 23734.

Saturday, May 16, 2015

May 16, 2015

The temperature climbed into the 80s yesterday, and the rain never materialized. In fact, it was at least partly sunny most of the day.

Last night's low was supposed to be around 70°. It was 71° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 23733 and 23734. Yesterday's reading was 23721. My consumption in the last 24 hours was 12½ kWh.

Friday, May 15, 2015

May 15, 2015

The temperature rose into the 80s yesterday. The clouds parted for awhile, and the sun came shining through, but it clouded up again later. Today's forecast calls for a high in the low 80s and a 50% chance of rain.

Last night's low was supposed to be around 70°. It was 72° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 23721. Yesterday's reading was between 23706 and 23707. My consumption was 14½ kWh.

Thursday, May 14, 2015

May 14, 2015

Yesterday was mostly overcast and drizzly — but not as rainy as we were led to believe it would be. Temperatures remained in the 70s most of the day, I think. By the time I left the office, the temperature had dipped into the 60s.

Last night's low was expected to be in the 60s. It was 67° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 23706 and 23707. Yesterday's reading was between 23700 and 23701. My consumption in the last 24 hours was 6 kWh.

Wednesday, May 13, 2015

May 13, 2015

It remained mostly cloudy yesterday, keeping temperatures in the 70s. Rain is in the forecast for today, and they are already warning about the possibility of flash flooding.

Last night's low was supposed to be in the 60s. It was 63° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 23700 and 23701. Yesterday's reading was 23695. My consumption yesterday was 5½ kWh.

Tuesday, May 12, 2015

May 12, 2015

Yesterday was a very mild day. The temperature stayed in the 70s, but it was sunny. Hopefully, that means that some of this rain we've been getting was absorbed and gave us some fresh space because the rain is expected to return — maybe as early as today, but certainly (according to the forecasters) by tomorrow.

Last night's low was expected to be 59°. The temperature was 64° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 23695. Yesterday's reading was between 23688 and 23689. My consumption was 6½ kWh.

Monday, May 11, 2015

May 11, 2015

It was overcast and wet all day. It didn't rain continuously, but it didn't have to. The ground is so saturated that even a little rain was capable of creating potential problems.

That kept the temperature in the 70s, which felt cool compared to the temperatures we've had lately. Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be in the low 70s. Today's forecast, however, calls for highs around 80° with a chance of rain.

Last night's low was expected to be 63°, then the temperatures are supposed to dip into the upper 50s tonight and tomorrow night. It was 65° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 23688 and 23689. Yesterday's reading was 23676. My consumption was 12½ kWh.

Sunday, May 10, 2015

May 10, 2015

It was overcast with light drizzle much of the day, punctuated with periods of sunlight. My guess is the temperature got into the 80s, at least for awhile, but it was the high humidity that made it feel warmer than it was.

Last night's low was expected to be 71°. It was 75° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 23676. Yesterday's reading was 23649. My consumption in the last 24 hours was 27 kWh.

Saturday, May 9, 2015

May 9, 2015

Yesterday was another overcast day. The temperature got into the 80s, and the humidity was fairly high so it felt warmer than it was. But then it rained on me as I was driving home, and the temperature cooled off quite a bit.

Last night's low was expected to be 70°. It was 73° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 23649. Yesterday's reading was 23639. My consumption in the last 24 hours was 10 kWh.

Friday, May 8, 2015

May 8, 2015

The temperature got into the 80s yesterday, but the skies got progressively cloudy in the late afternoon, leading to a pretty strong rain storm in the latter part of the evening.

There was no hail that I could see, but the wind was quite strong. I'm sure there must have been some damage in some spots in the Metroplex. I gather it was much stronger in some places than it was here.

Last night's low was expected to be in the upper 60s. It was 72° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 23639. Yesterday's reading was between 23619 and 23620. My consumption in the last 24 hours was 19½ kWh.

Thursday, May 7, 2015

May 7, 2015

Yesterday was warmer than I was led to believe it would be — probably in the mid–80s for awhile. And it wasn't rainy, either — just occasionally drizzly.

They continue to talk about a chance of rain, but the chance seems to diminish with the passage of time. Right now, for example, forecasters are saying there is a very good chance for rain this weekend — but that is what they were saying about today a few days ago, and now the chances for rain today stand at 30%.

Last night's low was supposed to be 68°. It was 74° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 23619 and 23620. Yesterday's reading was 23604. Consumption in the last 24 hours was 15½ kWh.

Wednesday, May 6, 2015

May 6, 2015

I think the temperature may have reached 80° for awhile yesterday. I don't really know. I was inside all day. I do know that it was in the upper 70s when I left the office.

It took awhile for the rain to materialize, such as it was. Some light rain early in the evening left the streets damp, but that had all evaporated by the time I went to bed. When I woke up this morning, the streets looked like we may have gotten some more light rain overnight, but nothing too exciting.

Forecasts indicated a 70% chance of rain overnight, then considerably diminished chances of rain today and tomorrow.

Last night's low was expected to be 67°. It was 69° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 23604. Yesterday's reading was 23589. Consumption in the last 24 hours was 15 kWh.

Tuesday, May 5, 2015

May 5, 2015

Yesterday was another warm, sunny day — but, judging by what the forecasters say, that is coming to an end, at least for a few days.

The temperature was in the low to mid–80s yesterday. Forecasters are saying we can expect upper 70s today, then right around 80° for the rest of the week. There is also a pretty good chance of rain today, less of a chance (but it remains in the forecast) for the rest of the week.

Last night's low was expected to be 63°. It was 66° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 23589. Yesterday's reading was 23576. My consumption in the last 24 hours was 13 kWh.

Monday, May 4, 2015

May 4, 2015

It was a warm, sunny weekend with highs in the 80s and no rain. It did get a bit breezy yesterday.

Last night's low was expected to be 63° (it was in the mid–70s when I went to bed). The temperature was 67° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 23576. Yesterday's reading was between 23557 and 23558. My consumption was 18½ kWh.

Sunday, May 3, 2015

May 3, 2015

Yesterday was sunny and warm like the day before. There was a bit of a breeze, which made it feel a little cooler, but it was clearly at or above 80° before noon.

More of the same is expected today and tomorrow, then rain returns to the forecast. That is appropriate, considering that Tuesday will be the 20th anniversary of the flood that took Mom's life.

It took a little while for the apartment to cool last night after the sun went down, but eventually the low was expected to be in the 60s. It was 66° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 23557 and 23558. Yesterday's reading was 23543. My consumption in the last 24 hours was 14½ kWh.

Saturday, May 2, 2015

May 2, 2015

The temperature probably reached the mid–80s yesterday. It was sunny all day — no sign of rain — and the forecasters say we can expect more of the same through the weekend. Rain returns to the forecast early next week.

Last night's low was expected to be 59°. It was 61° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 23543. Yesterday's reading was between 23536 and 23537. My consumption in the last 24 hours was 6½ kWh.

Friday, May 1, 2015

May 1, 2015

The temperature got into the 80s yesterday. It was a warm, sunny day. No rain.

Last night's low was expected to be around 60°, and that was the temperature when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 23536 and 23537. Yesterday's reading was between 23524 and 23525. My consumption was 12 kWh.
