September 30, 2014

When I left the office yesterday afternoon, the radio reported that the temperature briefly hit 90° earlier — but it was about 87° when I heard this.

It's likely to be 90° or higher a lot longer today and tomorrow. Forecasters say tomorrow's high could be 94°.

But then it will start to cool off.

Last night's low was expected to be 70°. It could be in the 50s by Friday night. It was 73° when I got up this morning.

This morning's meter reading is 18703. Yesterday's reading was 18688. Consumption was 15 kWh. That is more than one–third lower than the day before, but it is 50% higher than this day last year.

September 29, 2014

Yesterday was another warm day, upper 80s at least, and the forecast says we can expect low 90s through Thursday.

Last night's low was expected to be in the upper 60s. Same is expected tonight, then low 70s are anticipated through Thursday. It was 69° when I got up.

Things should be cooler by the weekend. There has even been talk of lows in the 50s.

This morning's meter reading is 18688. Yesterday's reading was 18666. Consumption in the last 24 hours was 22 kWh, which is 10% higher than the previous 24 hours and nearly 52% higher than this date in 2013.

September 28, 2014

The forecast said the high yesterday would be 88°. I'm sure it got at least that warm.

The low was expected to be 68°. It was actually 67° when I got up.

This morning's meter reading is 18666. Yesterday's reading was 18646. Consumption in the last 24 hours was 20 kWh, more than double my usage of the previous 24 hours, which isn't surprising. I was here most of the day yesterday. I was away most of the day before. My consumption was nearly 54% higher than on this date in 2013.

September 27, 2014

My best guess is that the temperature got into the upper 80s yesterday. The radio said the temperature was 86° when I left the office.

Last night's low was expected to be 68° — and that is what the temperature was when I woke up.

Perhaps it was cooler yesterday than I thought because my electricity consumption remained in single digits.

This morning's meter reading is 18646. Yesterday's reading was 18637 so my consumption was 9 kWh. That is 28% lower than my consumption in the previous 24 hours, and it is nearly 38% lower than this date a year ago.

September 26, 2014

They say the temperatures will be in the upper 80s this weekend, maybe even the 90s by the start of next week. But lately it seems to have been warm yet mild.

The radio reported a temperature of 85° when I left the office yesterday. It was in the 70s after the sun went down.

Last night's low was expected to be 63°. The forecast suggests we can expect lows in the 60s in the next seven days. Sure does make for pleasant sleeping, although I always wonder just how cool it got. It was 66° when I got up.

This morning's meter reading is 18637. Yesterday's reading was between 18624 and 18625. My consumption in the last 24 hours was 12½ kWh, nearly 9% higher than the previous 24 hours, so I suppose that gradual warming trend that forecasters have been talking about really is coming to pass. It is more than 19% lower than this date last year.

September 25, 2014

Yesterday was, apparently, another mild day with temperatures in the mid–80s.

Last night's predicted low was 60°. The temperature was 63° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 18624 and 18625. Yesterday's reading was 18613. Consumption was 11½ kWh — same as the day before and less than 5% higher than this day in 2013.

September 24, 2014

Apparently, the temperature never got above the mid–80s yesterday. I don't know. I spent nearly the whole day inside. When I left the office, the radio reported that the temperature was 83°.

Last night's low was supposed to be 58°. Did it get that low last night? It was 63° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 18613. Yesterday's reading was between 18601 and 18602. My consumption in the last 24 hours was 11½ kWh, which is more than 11% lower than my consumption in the previous 24 hours, but it is more than 35% higher than my usage on this date in 2013.

September 23, 2014

The temperature was in the 80s when I left the office yesterday afternoon. Based on what I heard from co–workers, it was probably in the 80s all day.

The low was expected to be in the low 60s. I don't know if it got quite that cool. It was 66° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 18601 and 18602. Yesterday's reading was between 18588 and 18589. My consumption in the last 24 hours was 13 kWh. That is 49% lower than the previous 24 hours, but it is nearly 23% higher than this day in 2013.

September 22, 2014

Summer never seems to go down without a fight around here. The temperature was in the 90s before 1 p.m. yesterday.

Forecasters seem to think the daytime highs will stay in the 80s this week with nighttime lows in the 60s — so we're moving in the right direction, at least as far as the forecast is concerned. Still warm but getting cooler.

But forecasts don't always come to pass, though. It was 74° when I woke up — and, although the forecasters say today's high will remain in the 80s, I will believe it when I see it.

This morning's meter reading is between 18588 and 18589. Yesterday's reading was 18563. My consumption in the last 24 hours was 25½ kWh. That is 2% higher than the previous 24 hours — and, because of the cool front that was in the area on this day in 2013, it is 2½ times my consumption level last year.

September 21, 2014

The temperature was in the 90s for a good portion of the day yesterday — apparently summer's last gasp. Well, probably not. This is Texas, and summer–like weather has been known to continue into October, even November. But this year has been milder than usual so I really do hope that fall weather will be here soon.

Last night's low was supposed to be around 70°. It was 71° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 16563. Yesterday's reading was 18538. That means consumption in the last 24 hours was 25 kWh, which is more than double my consumption in the previous 24 hours. That is understandable, given that I was away from the apartment for roughly 16 hours day before yesterday! And because of a cool front that swept through the area around this time last year, my consumption in the last 24 hours was nearly four times my consumption on this date in 2013.

September 20, 2014

The radio said the temperature was in the upper 80s when I left the office yesterday. It may have been in the low 90s for a time; I was indoors most of the day so I don't know. The forecasts are definitely calling for low 90s this weekend — but with lows in the 60s.

Last night's low was expected to be around 73°. I slept later this morning than I usually do, but the temperature was 72° when I got up.

This morning's meter reading is 18538. Yesterday's reading was 18527 so my consumption in the last 24 hours was 11 kWh. My consumption in the last 24 hours went down about 24% compared to the previous 24 hours, and it is 33% lower than my consumption on this date a year ago.

Friday, September 19, 2014

September 19, 2014

When I left the office yesterday, it was so mild (the radio said 85°) that I found it hard to believe it ever got as warm as the forecasters predicted.

Last night's low was expected to be 71°. As it turned out, that was the temperature when I woke up today. Makes me think it was even cooler at some point last night, possibly in the 60s.

This morning's meter reading is 18527. Yesterday's reading was between 18512 and 18513. Consumption in the last 24 hours was 14½ kWh. That is more than 35% lower than the previous 24 hours, and it is 34% lower than this day in 2013.

Thursday, September 18, 2014

September 18, 2014

I had vehicle trouble yesterday so I stayed home for most of it. I'm pretty sure the temperature got into the low to mid–90s in the afternoon, and I was pretty sure my electricity consumption would go up.

Last night's low was expected to be in the mid–70s, then low 70s through the weekend. It was 76° when I woke up this morning.

This morning's meter reading is between 18512 and 18513. Yesterday's reading was 18490. That means I used 22½ kWh yesterday, and that is an increase over the previous 24–hour period — but a rather modest one of less than 10%. It is also about 12% higher than my consumption on this date a year ago.

Wednesday, September 17, 2014

September 17, 2014

The temperature was in the upper 80s when I left the office yesterday afternoon — so it is quite possible that it got into the low 90s at some point.

Lows last night and every night through Saturday are predicted to be in the low 70s. I don't know if it got that low last night. It was 78° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading appears to be 18490. Yesterday's reading was between 18469 and 18470. My consumption in the last 24 hours was 20½ kWh. Astonishingly, that is 80% higher than my consumption in the previous 24 hours, but it is nearly 15% lower than my consumption on this day in 2013.

Tuesday, September 16, 2014

September 16, 2014

Yesterday was warm but not really hot. Well, I suppose it was. I was inside most of the day. But I checked weather conditions periodically, and it seemed to be mild most of the day. Of course, I was in Plano. I don't what it was like in east Dallas.

My guess is that the temperature was in the 80s, and it is supposed to be that way again today.

Forecasters say the nighttime lows will be in the low 70s, but the prediction apparently didn't come true last night. It was 77° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 18469 and 18470. Yesterday's reading was 18457. Thus, my consumption was 12½ kWh, which is 25% higher than the previous 24 hours but it is nearly 52% lower than this date in 2013.

Monday, September 15, 2014

September 15, 2014

Yesterday was another mild day. The temperature got up to around 80°, at least, but there was a nice breeze blowing and it felt more like fall than summer.

Summer–like temperatures are back in the forecast for the coming week, but lows, in general, are expected to stay in the low 70s. It was 72° when I woke up this morning.

This morning's meter reading is 18457. Yesterday's reading was 18447. Thus, my consumption in the last 24 hours has been 10 kWh, nearly 43% higher than the previous 24 hours, but it is more than 54% lower than my consumption on this date in 2013.

Sunday, September 14, 2014

September 14, 2014

Yesterday was a mild day. Temperatures were mostly in the 50s in the morning, then the 60s in the afternoon. It may have reached 70° briefly.

Today we might reach 80°, then the forecast calls for temperatures well into the 80s, possibly even low 90s during the week. Hopefully, though, those 90°–plus days are mostly gone until 2015.

It wasn't quite as cold last night as it was the night before. The temperature was 64° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 18447. Yesterday's reading was 18440 so consumption in the last 24 hours was 7 kWh, an increase of nearly 17% compared to the previous 24 hours, but it is more than 63% lower than on this date last year.

Saturday, September 13, 2014

September 13, 2014

It finally felt like fall yesterday.

The temperature stayed in the 60s, and it was overcast all day. It even rained for a bit.

The low was expected to be in the 50s, and it definitely was. When I got up this morning, the temperature was 57°.

Yesterday's meter reading was 18434. This morning's reading is 18440. I figured my consumption would drop, but I had no idea — I should have, I suppose — that my consumption would drop into single digits. It did. My consumption in the last 24 hours was 6 kWh. That is a drop of more than 62% compared to the previous 24 hours — and it is nearly 73% lower than on this date in 2013.

Friday, September 12, 2014

September 12, 2014

It was noticeably milder yesterday when I left the office than it has been in awhile. According to the latest forecast, yesterday's high was supposed to be near 90°, but it was more like mid–80s.

Now, the forecast is calling for highs in the 70s to low 80s for the next several days. Tonight's low is now expected to be in the 50s.

It was 73° when I got up this morning.

It is overcast this morning, which makes my photo hard to read, but this morning's meter reading appears to be 18434. Yesterday's reading was 18418. My consumption in the last 24 hours was 16 kWh. My consumption went down more than 37% compared to the previous 24 hours, and it is 36% lower than on this day in 2013.

Thursday, September 11, 2014

September 11, 2014

Yesterday was another scorcher. The radio reported that it had been in triple digits for awhile but had fallen to "only 99°" by the time I left the office.

It was still in the 90s well after dark last night, but a cool front was expected to move into the area around midnight. The forecasters said the low would be around 75°, then today's high would be in the mid–80s followed by a stretch of days with highs in the low 80s, possibly upper 70s, and nights with lows in the 60s.

I'm not sold on that yet. It was 82° when I woke up this morning, and the updated forecast said today's high would be 89°.

This morning's meter reading is 18418. Yesterday's reading was between 18392 and 18393. My consumption yesterday was 25½ kWh, which is nearly 16% higher than the previous 24 hours, and it is more than 21% higher than this day in 2013.

Wednesday, September 10, 2014

September 10, 2014

Yesterday was quite warm, and today is apt to be warmer — but a cool front is supposed to arrive tonight, bringing rain and much lower daytime highs.

The radio said it was 95° when I was driving home yesterday, and I think it stayed around 90° until after dark. The low last night was expected to be in the upper 70s.

This morning's meter reading is between 18392 and 18393. Yesterday's reading was between 18370 and 18371. My consumption was 22 kWh, the same as the previous 24 hours and about 4% lower than on this day a year ago.

Tuesday, September 9, 2014

September 9, 2014

Yesterday was warm, not particularly hot by Texas standards. As I was driving home, the radio reported the temperature was 92°.

It is likely to be considerably warmer — and windier — today and tomorrow. There is talk of upper 90s with humidity that will put the heat index in triple digits, at least for awhile on both days. But then a cool front is expected, accompanied by about a 40% chance of rain, on Thursday. Highs that day will be in the mid–80s, the forecasters say. On Friday, we may not even see 80°.

Last night's low was expected to be in the mid–70s, followed by upper 70s tonight and tomorrow night — then the lows are expected to be in the 60s! It was 79° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 18370 and 18371. Yesterday's reading was between 18348 and 18349. Consumption in the last 24 hours was 22 kWh. That is nearly 5% higher than the previous 24 hours, but it is nearly 17% lower than my consumption on this day in 2013.

Monday, September 8, 2014

September 8, 2014

We were told that yesterday would be milder than it has been — and it was. The temperature stayed in the 80s, but, for awhile, it flirted with the 90s so it wasn't exactly cool. But it gave me hope that the truly cooler weather isn't far away.

The low last night was expected to be 71°. It was 74° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 18348 and 18349. Yesterday's reading was between 18327 and 18328. My consumption was 21 kWh. That is more than 14% lower than the previous 24 hours, and it is 30% lower than this date in 2013.

Sunday, September 7, 2014

September 7, 2014

By the middle of the afternoon yesterday, the temperature was 95° — it was 97° by 4 p.m. — but the forecasters swore the high today would only be 88°, and they're telling us that it will be 81° on Friday. In between it will be back in the 90s.

But around 5 p.m. or so, some rain came through the area. After it left, the temperature tumbled into the low 80s. It was below 80° before sundown.

Last night's low was supposed to be 73°. It was 72° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 18327 and 18328. Yesterday's reading was 18303. My consumption was 24½ kWh. That is an increase of more than 22% compared to the previous 24 hours, but it is almost 8% lower than this day last year.

Saturday, September 6, 2014

September 6, 2014

Yesterday was another hot day, but I can't say for sure how hot it got because I was away from home for nearly all of it.

The radio said it was 96° when I left the office late in the afternoon. It was 78° when I got up this morning.

Revised forecasts are saying the temperature won't get into the 90s this weekend, then it will warm up for most of next week, then it will be back in the 80s by Friday. We'll see.

This morning's meter reading is 18303. Yesterday's reading was 18283 so my consumption was 20 kWh. That's nearly 25% lower than my consumption in the previous 24 hours, and it is nearly 26% lower than my consumption on this date a year ago.

Friday, September 5, 2014

September 5, 2014

Yesterday was a lot like the day before — and like today probably will be. But the forecasts say the weekend will be better. A cool front is expected, which won't exactly make it cool, just cooler.

As I was driving home yesterday, the radio said the temperature was 96°, but it had been 98° earlier. The low last night was expected to be in the upper 70s. It was 78° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 18283. Yesterday's reading was between 18256 and 18257 so my consumption in the last 24 hours was 26½ kWh, precisely the same as the day before and nearly 12% lower than this day in 2013.

Thursday, September 4, 2014

September 4, 2014

Yesterday was another hot day, with highs in the upper 90s. I spent most of the day indoors so I don't know exactly how high the temperature went, but it was in the mid–90s when I left the office.

Last night's low was supposed to be in the upper 70s. It was 81° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is between 18256 and 18257. Yesterday's reading was 18230. My consumption in the last 24 hours was 26½ kWh. That is more than 26% higher than my consumption in the previous 24 hours, but it is nearly 12% lower than my consumption on this date in 2013.

Wednesday, September 3, 2014

September 3, 2014

There is a sameness to the weather at this time of the year. It is almost always hot during the day — the radio said it was 95° when I left the office, but I am quite sure it was a few degrees warmer than that at the hottest point of the day. I just didn't have an opportunity to enjoy it.

The nighttime lows are — supposedly — in the upper 70s, but those moments must be few and far between because it always seems to be in the 80s when I get up, even if it is still dark outside (which it usually is when I get up on weekdays). It was 79° when I woke up this morning.

This morning's meter reading is 18230. Yesterday's reading was 18209 so my consumption in the last 24 hours was 21 kWh. That is more than 28% lower than my consumption in the previous 24 hours, and it is 25% lower than my consumption on this day a year ago.

Tuesday, September 2, 2014

September 2, 2014

Labor Day was very warm, in the mid–90s, possibly even upper 90s. According to forecasts, that is what we can expect all week.

The forecasts have been calling for lows in the mid– to upper 70s this week, but it was 80° when I got up this morning.

This morning's meter reading is 18209. Yesterday's reading was 18177. My consumption in the last 24 hours was 32 kWh. That is a decrease of about 3% compared to the previous 24 hours, and it is precisely the same as last year.

Monday, September 1, 2014

September 1, 2014

The last day of August was warm — mid–90s — but it dropped below 90° around sunset.

The first week of September doesn't look like it will bring an immediate change. The forecast calls for highs around 95° and lows in the mid– to upper 70s. It was 78° when I woke up.

This morning's meter reading is 18177. Yesterday's reading was 18144. Consequently, I used 33 kWh in the last 24 hours. That is nearly 25% higher than my consumption in the previous 24 hours, but it is more than 13% lower than my consumption on this day in 2013.
